August at Living Church of Five Mile

We blinked, and August was over here at the Living Church of Five Mile! The month may have flown by, but God gave us plenty of moments worth celebrating.

🎉🎂 August brought birthdays for our Associate and Youth Pastor, Danny Hutchens, and our Youth Co-Pastor, Jennifer Hutchens. But perhaps the greatest celebration for their family this month had nothing to do with birthdays. Pastor Danny had the incredible privilege of baptizing their two oldest children, David and Eden Hutchens.

David and Eden were born into this church family and have continued to grow up surrounded by the people of Five Mile. Though they may be young in years, we are already seeing God work through their lives. We believe this is only the beginning of what the Lord will do through them as they continue to grow—not only in size, but in their relationship with Christ Jesus.

🌪️🙏🙌 August also brought severe weather to Brown County, with tornado damage affecting areas all around us. In the middle of it all, we have so much to thank God for. Our church building was unharmed, and although the church and several families were without electricity for a few days, everyone was safe. We don't take that protection for granted. God is good!

🎒📚🍦 Of course, August also meant it was time to head back to school!

Our Back to School Sunday was a hit with the kids—and really, any Sunday that includes ice cream is a pretty great Sunday! Our children left with backpacks and school supplies, enjoyed ice cream sundaes, and even had the opportunity to get fresh haircuts before starting a new school year. More importantly, we were able to remind them that their church family is behind them, praying for them as they walk into their classrooms and schools.

🙌🔥🎶 We closed out the month with one of our favorite Sundays: Youth Sunday.

We welcomed Rev. Christian Pittmon from Aspinwall Church in Cleveland, who delivered two powerful messages: "Built to Last" and "What's Your Why?"

We are incredibly blessed by the young people God has placed at Five Mile. In fact, sometimes it feels like almost every Sunday could be Youth Sunday! Our youngest minister, Sister Maelyn Gregory, at the ripe old age of 14, also brought a wonderful word this month.

Our teenagers aren't simply sitting in the pews waiting until they're older to serve God—they are serving Him right now. They are singing and leading worship, playing instruments, running sound and media, serving throughout the church, and using the gifts God has given them.

Week after week, our Pastor and Youth Pastors are able to see the fruit of the time, prayer, teaching, and love that has been poured into this generation. We are excited to see where God takes them next.

🌸🙏 August also brought a new chapter for our Five Mile Ladies Ministry as they held their officer elections. Sister Kim Gregory will continue serving as President, Sister Jenny Gillham will serve as Vice President, and Sister Theresa Waldron was elected Secretary/Treasurer. We are thankful for these ladies and look forward to seeing what God has in store for the ministry as they continue to be Willing Vessels, seeking Him, serving others, and growing stronger together.

🙌❤️✝️ Throughout the month, our pulpit was filled with messages that challenged us. As Pastor often reminds us, sometimes the Word has to knock off the rough edges and refine us. The messages may challenge us, convict us, and cause us to examine ourselves, but that's part of growing closer to Christ.

As we leave August behind and step into September, we're thankful for every baptism, every young person serving, every child prayed over, every message preached, every prayer answered, and every opportunity God has given us to gather together.

The calendar may change, but our prayer remains the same:

Keep fanning the flames of revival.

Let's fill our churches with people hungry for God, reach beyond our four walls, and do everything we can to share the Gospel.

Let's make our churches crowded and in turn, make Heaven crowded.
